My First Hackathon

In early April, I participated in my very first Hackathon in a team of five. Presented on devpost.com  by the Pacific Islands Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (PIANGO) as the official Pacific Hackathon 2022. The main challenge was to create a platform to that allows for PIANGO to communicate effectively with NGO's and the different Government organizations around the Pacific.

Our Solution : The Pacific Bubble

Our Team decided on a web-based application to assist PIANGO in their endeavors. The inspiration for this product has come from many places one of them being the online forum discussion site Reddit. We have used the Reddit site as a template as it solves many issues about the problem statement. As for what our project does that; PIANGO is planned to be the super adminn moderating the website and they can give power to the local NGOs from the pacific. The NGOs can make threads on the site on key issues affecting the region and the users can access these threads via links. The users can also log in to the site and access the threads. the users can also vote on the threads that they think the policymakers should pay more attention to. the PIANGO will also be able to access this data and they will then be able to make better-informed decisions.

It was the first Hackathon for all Five of us and also a first for creating a website for some of us. With also being an inexperienced group we we had to complete the project  in two days to make the submission deadline. The Team was very proud of the experience gained from this project and managed to have fun along the way. I worked mostly as the Lead of Design, choosing the orientation, styling and certaining functionality that needs to be implemented to the web-based application. I also worked on the submission video explaining the project. This was my first time doing video editing and animation which was a great learning experience to familiarize myself with videography and video editing. Video Editing has also evolved to become a minor hobby since this project and has been a skill I am glad I learned.
